My Mini #Staycation

Hello,

I went back to Southampton the other day, that’s where I went to university to do my BA (Hons) and Masters. I spent half a decade in that city. It was nice to be back and are all the changes there. I was in Southampton because friends from uni, who stayed in Soton (that’s a local way of saying Southampton), had a baby dedication.

It was nice lots of free food! I hanged out with friends, had nice food and ice cream and chats and banter and I went back to my old church I attended at uni and it was good!

I decided to stay in a budget guest house. I’m not doing that ever again lol. It would make great student digs but my goodness it was budget. I got there and the guy didn’t even show me to my room he was just like:

“its up there and by the way, reception closes in the evening so you’ll have to let yourself in at the side later on…”. -_-

The room wasn’t too bad, again it would make good student accommodation.

The bathroom was not connected to the room and neither was next doors, which meant on the last day as I was leaving I had the nasty surprise of seeing my neighbour walk out of his bathroom, in a towel dripping wet. He was nice and tried to make conversation but in my head I was like:

“stranger danger! lol he’s nice but under that towel he’s naked and wet!!!!!!!!!!!!! No one is here to hear me scream so let’s just cut the chit chat and leave!”

I think we were both a little surprised hah hah!

The power shower should have been called The Little Shower That Could, it tried it’s best but it was not very powerful. I like my showers so powerful that its nearly ripping the skin of your flesh lol like it exfoliates its so powerful.

Another issue that I’m sure you see from. The video is that the window had no cover, I hung my towel across the towel rail and put it near the window so no one saw me in the shower, poor show.

In all, I got what I paid for Β£45/night lol Next time I will be much more willing to part with my money…

Love Catherine

Hey guys,

Has anyone noticed how beautiful the English countryside is?

I love looking out of the window when I am in a car, train or whatever and just observing the natural beauty around me. Remember my post from last year? Why I’m not Designed For City Living

It’s getting hotter now and I just love the way the sun hits the foliage. Nature is so relaxing. I thank Jesus for creating plants!

#human #Jesus #taxi #railstrike #travel #Kent #London #Christian #ethnic diversity

Hi guys,

Today was odd.

I wrote a song click here to listen to it or use the embedded player below:

So today I was supposed to go to Kent for an important meeting (I’ll tell you about this later). I pre booked my tickets to go from station A, went to bed on time got all my stuff ready and pue booked the taxi to go to the station.

Come this morning I’m up at the right time, I manage to sort out the dogs and everything all before 8.30am in the morning!

Then the time for the cab comes and goes. I call them, taxi company A say they are stuck in traffic when I call them. Then things get really close to when my train is going to come and out of desperation I knock at my neighbors house – she’s not in. I then start walking to the station (30-40 min walk away) I was still going to miss my train realistically.

I get a call back from taxi company A saying they are not coming and also no trains are running from station A.

I then stop at a post box and call a taxi from company B asking then to take me to station B. They do and the cab man wisely says

“There are rail strikes why don’t I stay here you look in the station to see of is closed if it is I’ll rake you home or to another station.”

I agree, I go in the barriers are up and the ticket office is closed.

I then think to myself, if station B is closed that means that Station C, D sms E will also be closed because they are before B on the same line so I can’t go to them either.

So I run back to the taxi and ask them to take me to station B. I’m looking at the rail app and seeing in real time that Station A is closed. I look at station B and in 5 minutes if driving station B closes.

The taxi driver suggested I cancel my meeting. I agree and send the necessary emails and things get rearranged.

I’m now very stressed so I ask the taxi diver to take me to town A where station A is because my favorite coffee shop is there and I needed to sit down with a hot chocolate, with marshmallows and cream, in a  warm corner of said coffee shop with no one bothering me.

Taxi driver drops me off

I go to to the offee shop and have some issues. Someone’s in my favorite seat, they had no soya milk for my soya hot chocolate, they had no gluten free cake. I flirted with the guy no 1 of 2 behind the counter. He ignored me but his colleague guy no 2 of 2  gave me the eyes which made me feel happy! (how am I going to find a husband if I don’t flirt with anyone hmmm?) Anyway, so I decided to just eat normal cake, have a normal hot chocolate and eat a chicken fajitas with cheese. That’s the most carbs in one go I’ve had on a while.

There were people hogging seats. Seats that could have gone to many people only 2 people were sitting at, it was ridiculous. I still got a seat and people watched whilst I ate πŸ™‚

My hot chocolate wasn’t hot though..

Anyway, so I eventually left and went to taxi firm C to go home. Whilst in the waiting area, an old Caucasian lady starts talking to me about how much she appreciates ethnic diversity and that people should stop bombing each other. Then a Turkish man comes out of the taxi office and jobs in the conversation. Then the old lady hugged me! I just smiled and nodded as a random person proceeded to touch me…

It is true that town A, due to its proximity to London in quite ethnically diverse, I mean honestly a Turkish man, an elderly Irish lady and a Caribbean young woman were standing having a conversation and not killing each other. That is brilliant and from God. The taxi driver from firm C that is in town A put up the heat in the car because I was cold then took me home.

When I got home I proceeded to do what I love doing. I cleaned the kitchen, played with the dogs, made a smoothie and finished a song and hung out with Jesus.

I shared this story because I wanted you guys to realise that I am human and we are all human, we have or days when things go topsy turvy but just remember hold onto your principles, keep on believing Jesus and let Him take control!

P.S. I still love Costa Coffee πŸ˜›

Hey Guys!,

Apart from music, another one of my hobbies is Astronomy and I’ve had a telescope since I was young. It lives at the top floor of my house, sometimes if I hear on the news that there is something particularly interesting to see in the sky I’ll whip it out. Sometimes, I just like to take my telescope out and just look at the stars or the planets because I find it cathartic. So on the 14/11/16 there was a Super Moon! I was really excited sooo I decided to get my telescope out and take a look hehe!

What is a Supermoon? Well according to timeanddate.com which has some really interesting information about it (see the Bibliography at the bottom):

“A Supermoon happens when a Full Moon or New Moon coincides with the Moon’s closest approach to Earth; also called perigee.” (timeanddate.com 2016)

I couldn’t see anything for ages! So I decided to go downstairs and watch some TV lol. Then I promptly forgot about the Supermoon, till I went to brush my teeth and go to bed, then Jesus reminded me.

By the time the Supermoon arrived I was a little tired, it was cold outside and my commitment was waning. However, Jesus gave me the idea of propping the telescope on the stairs of the top floor of my house. That way I could see the Supermoon and not get cold!

I was really panicking whilst propping up the telescope because I realised that as the moon was so close it appeared to pass quicker, meaning I had to swiftly get it in sight before it moved over the house and out of view. I didn’t even have my glasses on (I couldn’t remember where I put them lol) and I was panicking further as I wasn’t sure if I had focussed the image properly to take a picture! It was quite funny actually lol.

Eventually I got to a cosy position on the stairs and I invited Jesus to come and look at the supermoon with me and I really felt the peace of God during that time πŸ™‚

The peace that I felt and the fact that Jesus reminded me that I wanted to see the Supermoon has reinforced what I’ve always thought, which is that it’s really great to involve Jesus in ones hobbies and spend time with Jesus doing ordinary everyday things outside of praying, reading the Bible and going to church. Jesus is interested in every part of our lives and I feel like He enjoys participating in the simple fun things, as well as the big projects in our lives.

I don’t really know how to take photos from a telescope and I didn’t have an adapter to steady the camera but I did the best I could!

What do you think? Leave me a comment or click here to follow me on Instagram! πŸ˜€

P.S. Here’s the video from my last post Where Are The Girls?, so click here to watch me play the song or watch it in the embedded player below.

Happy Stargazing! πŸ˜€

Why I’m Not Designed For City Living

Helloooo!

As it was nice weather today I decided to take a walk and take in the leafy surroundings of my home town. Below is a picture of the sun πŸ™‚

20160218_122014

It’s getting brighter now which is wonderful! and I am soo looking forward to summer!

I absolutely love taking walks! It is so nice to go just me and Jesus and take in our surroundings. I love fresh air! I love trees! I love grass! and I love the breeze! It’s good for you! and I genuinely think that people are not designed to stay indoors all the time, it simply isn’t healthy!

We make Vitamin D from the sunlight hitting our skin don’t you know (that’s why I think Adam and Eve were naked, the lack of clothes maximised the surface area in which they had to expose to the sun to create Vitamin D, maximising their Vitamin D making potential!)

I totally love the leafy, still, quiet and sleepy nature of my home town , especially the nature reserve (which I will henceforth refer to as ‘the park’). Walking around all I could hear were birds singing, tree’s rusting, the occasional dog barking and the sound of children playing and cycling in the FRESH AIR. In the City, where one of my jobs is based, I struggle for fresh air and even when I am outside there are people smoking left, right and centre, the plethora of cars pollute the air and it’s soo crowded…

My Walk

So, I started my walk by walking over the bridge that connects where the residential area to the nature park, a stream separates the two, hence the need for a bridge hehe. Both sides are leafy and the park kind of merges into the houses. The water was a little muddy as it has been raining lately (see below).

20160218_121138

Once I crossed the bridge I walked on the path that overlook the houses, a path that I have happily cycled on many times as a child with my brother and father. The ground was even as usual and the sky was blue πŸ™‚ (see below)

20160218_121619

Here’s a picture of the blue sky!

20160218_121635

As it was sunny I began to get quite hot! So I decided to take off my jacket and scarf

20160218_122259

revealing my new top that I bought two days ago πŸ™‚

I tried to take a selfie in the sunshine but the sun got in my eyes lol so I just had to settle with this one hehe!

“It’s all so green!”, I kept on thinking to myself! Everything looked so beautiful bathed in sunshine :). I even spoke to a few of the people I encountered in the park on my way.

It was at this point (see selfie) that I decided that I would go to my ‘special place’ in the park. My ‘special place’ in the park is somewhere that is past the bird sanctuary, through the marshes and out the other side. It’s wonderful!

I found my ‘special place’ when I was a child on my bike over a decade ago, I remember clearly saying to my father and brother one day when we were out on our bikes “hey why don’t we go down there?” and they said “ok” so we went.

Here’s a picture of the tree’s I have to walk past to get there:

20160218_123224

These wood’s lead to the wildlife refuge which is fenced off. It’s fenced off obviously to protect the animals from human foot traffic and other things that people might unwittingly do to disturb the animals.

20160218_123445

20160218_123449

Here’s a selfie/video I recorded to capture the moment πŸ™‚

Ducks, heh, so I eventually managed to pull myself away from the ducks and continued walking to my special place! I haven’t been to my special place since I was a child! But I can always remember where it is! It’s burned into my memory! A few things have changed though since I was last there like this for example:

20160218_124006I’m sure that that wasn’t there before! Also, I’m not sure what it actually is, it looks like it has been flooded due to the recent rainfall so maybe when the tide is down and we can see more of it then it will be easier to guess what it actually is! I’m assuming that it is some kind of viewing platform to look out onto the lake. That was a nice detour!

After my little detour I resumed going to my special place. This involved walking up the 20160218_124411wooden and mud stairs which looked decidedly aged since the last time I saw them. My suggestion is that you do not hold on to the sides! You go up the stairs, then you go down an incredibly slippery mud path. I couldn’t take pictures at this point because I was too focussed on not trying not to slip! lol

At that point I began to contemplate what my suede boots, pink top and scarf, leather jacket and bag with pretty patterns would look like covered in mud.

Eventually, I got past that perilous muddy area, it is fine when it’s hot and the mud is solid but it had rained recently so it was quite slippery. I am very thankful that I didn’t slip hehe.

Once I was got through the muddy steps area I went through the marsh area, well technically speaking the whole area is marsh but the path after the stairs leads literally through the marshes as seen in the photo below:

20160218_124509

A bit more further and then I got to my special place πŸ™‚

My special place is a secluded miniature beach in the middle of a forest/marsh πŸ™‚

I made sure I took lots of pictures!

20160218_124515

I even took a panorama.

20160218_124601

Everything has grown so much since I was a child, also the tide was higher today then it was when I was a child due to the rain. Normally, there is a beach, (see the lighter area on the water) but today there was nice green grass which was still good!

None of the pictures really make up for actually being there.

Once appropriate selfies, videos and pictures were taken I decided to head back home and do some #freelance work.

After going to my special place outside I felt so much better, being outside in leafy areas make me feel so happy in a way that being outside in the City cannot. Although the City is very close to my heart, the green spaces are even closer. The fresh air and walk did my lungs some good! I love leafy areas and find them relaxing, being constantly surrounded by concrete with an absence of greenery is not for me at all.

My recommendation is that we all try to get outside at least once this summer!

Pan Flute!

Hey Lovely!,

So another instrument I own but don’t play regularly is the Pan Flute! I got it as a Christmas present from one of my flatmates in Student halls, how thoughtful!

Sooo! I decided to take a picture of it and thought to myself

“Hmm! it looks like it could be some kind of artifact? How about I edit the photo to make it look like it’s a centuries old photo, that has been taken by a famous anthropologist and has now been placed in a, (fictional…lol), museum exhibition on folk instruments from around the world!”

To achieve this look I did the following things to this photo:

Aperture

  • For a start I took it with quite a bright exposure in a very sunny room against a white background, the light came from the right to the left (I flipped the picture which is why the shadows don’t fall as you would expect them to) – This was handy in making it look like someone had just taken this picture in the field, for archival purposes and not in a studio
  • Changed the White Balance to the more yellow end of the spectrum – the original picture was taken with a light blue tint/hue (my favourite colour is blue!)
  • Upped the exposure, recovery, black point (to get those lovely dark lines and grains to pop!) and increased the brightness again – this was because I was trying to simulate old fashioned cameras and lomo film
  • I then increased the contrast a lot – again to simulate old film and how the picture/paper might have aged. I also upped the saturation and vibrancy a little, just to bright out the different shades of brown in the wood.
  • I brought out the shadows a tiny bit and increased the mid contrast – again I wanted to bring out the different grains in the wood and highlight the lines and even the cracks in the pipes to make the most of the lovely textures! As well as make the instrument look old!
  • I also put a vignette on the picture – again this makes a picture look older and simulates an old fashioned camera.
  • There is also a lot of noise reduction in this picture – I wanted it to look old but not too old but old enough… lol
  • Finally, I had to make the picture sepia tone – nothing says oldness like sepia tone!

Fotor

  • I then added a few lomo filters with varying levels of intensity – again to make the picture look old!
  • Following that I added simulated lens flare – to simulate the cool effect of light leaking into a retro camera that uses film and how interesting that would look developed on film instead of using a DSLR
  • To finish off the old fashioned look I added a tiny bit of tilt shift – I did this because I noticed in old photos that often around the edges its blurry and I wanted to recreate that!

Let me know what you think of it? Also, CLICK HERE to have a look at the other photos in my gallery as well.

I got this as a Christmas present from one of my flatmates when I was in student halls!

New Picture and meditation

When I was downloading photos from my camera I found this saved onto the internal memory of my camera!

I have decided to call this picture ‘Hope’ CLICK HERE TO SEE THE HOPE TREE the link will open in a new window so you can continue reading this. I called this photo ‘Hope’ because of the way the sunlight manages to permeate, illuminate and beautify everything it shines on, like Jesus. This picture shows what Psalm 19 is talking about:

Psalms 19:1-14 NLT – [1] For the choir director: A psalm of David. The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. [2] Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. [3] They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. [4] Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun. [5] It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race. [6] The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat. [7] The instructions of the LORD are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. [8] The commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight for living. [9] Reverence for the LORD is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the LORD are true; each one is fair. [10] They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. [11] They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them. [12] How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. [13] Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. [14] May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

Pictures!

Hey I have added quite a bit of music now I shall add some pictures from a walk I did today. I took quite a few pictures but I only liked two…lol

You will notice a theme in my pictures. I really like paths… I guess its metaphorical of journeys.

I also like freedom. So in every photo I take there is always be an area that is not limited and goes off into the horizon of an unknown destiny. E.g. in the black and white photo there is a bit of exposed sky to escape into.

Enjoy! πŸ™‚

I have a lovely filter on my phone which removes all the colours except a select few (in this case the yellow-red colours). In Aperture I later increased the saturation of yellow. It was very lovely to have some leaves on the ground as well, I just feel that it brightens up the photo nicely.
